  1. If the mountains are socked in, check out flying into Orcas Island. The approach is very cool. And it's about a mile walk into town for chow.
  2. Nope....just realistic. Fortunately I have access to plane rides, anytime, in the cascades but I prefer to be climbing them then flying over them. And speaking from experience....it's not fun flying around peaks obstructed by clouds.

  4. For people just starting out, it's really important that you check the anchor your leader has set up. Both single pitch top roping and multipitch stuff. Doesn't matter how much more experience the leader has, ALWAYS check the anchor. Understand why it is set up the way it is and ask questions if you don't understand or don't like it. And for leaders out there, make sure your partner checks your anchor.

  6. We were up there mid august. Brought a set of stoppers but didn't use any of them. Just used the fixed gear on the summit block and the biners and runners from our glacier gear. Climbed it in our boots and can't imagine using rock shoes. Very good edges and good holds. As for the glacier, it was straight forward. Ended up camping at 7500ft so made for a short summit bid. A fantastic alpine backpacking trip...you'll have fun.
