  1. I didn't realize there was any hype about this route? A few extreme skiers have asked about skiing it, but...
  2. Here you go! http://mountrainieraccess.blogspot.com/ I'm expanding the Mount Rainier Climbing Blog as questions come in.
  3. Karima Adebibe, 20, has been chosen as the new international face of "Lara Croft" action hero. Karima was chosen from thousands of hopefuls, and will now embark on a gruelling training program to prepare for the role.
  4. I can't think of any "man" who has done this route solo. Maybe it hasn't been soloed before? Any other Rainier historians know?
  5. Hum... as it stands now, skiing the ID would be rather tough. Despite the heavy snowfall this year, it's still broken up. See: www.mountrainierclimbing.blogspot.com for some details. The I.D., the Emmons/Winthrop, the Tahoma Glacier and the Kautz Glacier are the ideal routes to ski and/or board. Mind you, this is EXPERTS only terrain.
  6. Congrats to Hannah for sure, it was definitely her day on the mountain. I've got an image with the route marked... I'll post it to my blog soon.
  7. I'll post some recent images of the Nisqually Cleaver and Icecliff on the blog. Soon I hope... That image is a bit dated...
  8. Shameless props... http://mountrainierclimbing.blogspot.com/
  9. Another quick update about the weekend. I'll post more info and images on the blog tomorrow.
  10. Ok, I'm geeking out up here and have figured a few things out with this blogging software. Check it out. If you've some good ideas on how I could make this site better/more useful, please feel free to send me a PM.
  11. Well, they still haven't figured out that server, soooo I've decided to create a Rainier climbing blog... Yes, Blogs are so 2005, but this may be best way to post good information while they figure out things back east. I'm not much of a tech guy, so it may take me while to figure out how to post images, etc, which I'd like to do. For now, I'll post Rainier climbing information at: http://mountrainierclimbing.blogspot.com/ As for the Public Shelter at Camp Muir; it was very accessible as of Jan 24th. As it stands now, it's snowing like mad up at Paradise.
  12. Hum... I can't seem to get the images to post here.... Here are the links. http://www.cascadeclimbers.com/plab/showphoto.php?photo=16039&sort=1&size=big&cat=509 http://www.cascadeclimbers.com/plab/showphoto.php?photo=16038&sort=1&size=big&cat=509 http://www.cascadeclimbers.com/plab/showphoto.php?photo=16037&sort=1&size=big&cat=509 http://www.cascadeclimbers.com/plab/showphoto.php?photo=16036&sort=1&size=big&cat=509 http://www.cascadeclimbers.com/plab/showphoto.php?photo=16035&sort=1&size=big&cat=509
  13. Got a chance to be outside and Tuesday and I snapped a few images along the way. It's snowing again today, but as you can see, the mountian is looking fabulous. When the weather settles, the climbing will be wonderful. Enjoy, Mike
  14. We have a very, very, complicated government. Somehow Mr. Nelson, I bet you know what I'm talking about. I could write a book about the inner machine. Look at it this way, if one goes down, you've got a better chance of one being up?
  15. That camera is on another server (different division of the agency,) but thanks for pointing it out!
  16. For those interested in potentially becoming a seasonal climbing ranger at Mount Rainier, please see the following job announcement at: USA-JOBS It is a short hiring period, so apply soon. In the last few years, I've had very little staff turnover (none in fact,) but there is always a chance that new positions may be available. The primary selective factor is mountaineering experience. The announcement spells out the details of applying. Make sure that you pay close attention to the questions, it's frustrating to see qualified applicants bounced out b/c they missed simple administrative details. Mike
  17. Homeland security employs feeble mind control techniques at best. They are absolutely no match for the dark side. Careful Yoda...
  18. I looked into this issue... It seems that there are some problems with a NPS server back east. That's preventing the NPS from uploading new information to its web sites. For example, I updated the route conditions for Rainier, but they've yet to post. Not that I have any new reports worth that much... B/c all it's done since Dec 21 is snow, snow, snow...
  19. SURE WILL NODDER! http://www.alaskamountainforum.com/profile.php?mode=viewprofile&u=39
  20. Hum, I think that date is in August....
  21. You are correct... I guess Abbie was short for Abbot, not Albert... I still think that Abbie would still try to steal this thread...
  22. Steal this thread...
  23. J-Tree rocks! Tex, Is that "Super Roof?" Love that climb... Yeah, Dangling Wu Li, Big Horn Mating Grotto, Poodles are People too, Sidewinder, Tax Man, Illusion Dweller, etc, etc... Hey Roboby, what were the temps? I see down jackets during the day. I was there for 10 days this fall; absolutely PERFECT weather, and yet there were very, very few climbers. Never had to wait for a route, found a spot in Hidden Valley easily... Things seemed really quiet there (well, except for that awesome Halloween Party with PiƱatas put on by the folks from Tahoe/Lowers Leap and Tony from the rock gym in San Diego.) BTW, is that the back seat of your rental car/mini van?
  24. Terrible Ted, and his Ten Fingers of Doom, is the Motor City Madman. Cat scratch fever baby... I see that Mr. Norris didn't make the cut... Tough guys... Now for some real moonlighting... NY Times
