  1. I won't be going to any show that is sponsored by that DVD company, hopefully Fred will be doing other shows, and perhaps showing up to a pub club soon.
  2. It's time to wash the truck, and get out the boards... Snow is finally here!
  3. Not to be contradictary Davie, but I ride any of three buses that go from downtown, directly down harbor avenue, and a stop right in front of the Alki. And there is always the ever popular water taxi, but it is not running until april, i think, that goes from the ferry docks to the dock right out side of the Alki. As far as smokey and stinky goes, yeah the Alki's got that, but the only thing worse than a smokey, stinky bar is a closed minded idiot that limits themselves to a non smoking atmosphere.
  4. I am always partial to the Alki, It's been a while since I've been to one of these shindigs, but I would be tempted to go if it were here. I love the Zoo too, but parking sucks....Plus 75 cent burgers for you carnivores out there! See Ya later.
  5. good work AlpineK, See ya at the Sausage Factory...
  6. does anyone want to call it. I guess it sounds like schultzy's, but whats the official word?
  7. I'd be down with Targhees, but I would also suggest downtown, Owl and Thistle? or ALKI, not the most convenient, but surely a popular destination. Other than that Parking sucks in the U dist., I'd rather be eastlakey, or downtown. Regardless, see you all there. You too Red-Spunk.
  8. I figured I would get the "since it's the military it's the taxpayers money" thing. I think that I should clarify my point. The military guys get paid (read: the taxpayer pays) whether they are rescuing someone off rainier or if they are out on training exercises somewhere else. The government allows them to take part in rescues for "real experience". So technically yes the taxpayers pay for the time, fuel, equipment and such, but it would be paid for anyway since they would be out training somewhere. 9. As I understand it, the fee increase is the first in about 10 years. Compare the cost to America's other big peak and the big "R" still comes in pretty cheap at $30. I have not seen the whole proposal, and plan on attending the Seattle public meetings to learn more about it. As far as where the cash goes, I do believe that some of it does go towards the costs associated with the climbing rangers. Technically the current fee is not a "rescue fee" either, nor are rescues paid for by tax payers directly. Major rescues involve the national guard and other branches of the military that DONATE their time and equipment for a chance of real rescue experience, that they otherwise would not get with simulated rescues. Some of my info could be wrong, but I'll be at the Public Hearings to see what's up!!!
  10. About the printing, if you need to print your pics larger that 24"x36" then you should be shooting film, the difference between 5 and 4 megapixels is not that great. for most of the printing up to 11"x 17" even 3 megapixels would be sufficient.
  11. I have a G2, have been shooting with it for almost a year now, my buddy just bought a 5000. As far as I can tell the G2 feels more like a camera, both have a rotating and swiveling display, both have manual features. I use mostly the manual mode with raw images, I have blown these up to over 36"x48". As far as resolution goes I think the nikon is a bit higher, but between the two cameras I have not noticed a huge difference in quality. The G2 seems to have a few more features, like adjusting saturation, color and hue, but I'm sure either is good. There is one important point though, when my friends batteries run low, I still have about 50-70 more shots on my charge, and I have not had any problems with the battery getting cold, it had worked on cold days on Rainier and very hot days in the Southwest. As far as accessories go, if you have a nikon set up already, the TTL flashes and such will work with the NIkon, if you have a Canon Setup, the TTL flashes and stuff will work with the Canon. I unfortunately have a full Nikon System for film, but went with the Canon Digital because of it's saturation and sharpness... just my two cents... Sean
  12. At the post office try the microwave pork rinds...mmmmmm mmmmmm goooood! And the karoke on saturday nights is the best!
  13. Bummed i can't make it to the rope up, but glad that cc.com regulars can get revenge on the mounties one weekend a year and stack up on all the routes!(although we seldom get into other peoples way on roadside climbs like those pesky, lazy mountaineers!!!) have a great safe weekend everyone I'll be thinking about you while I'm climbing in AZ! I'll be and anc hopefully myself in the sun... have fun, sean
  14. I've done a little reseach in this area, as I would like to buy a new tent this year. the Bibler is a great tent, but I think that you sacrifice durability for weight. I've talked to several people who have used biblers on big expeditions, and it seems that they are ideal for those types of trips, but seldom for several of those trips. The mere fact that they are single wall, light weight tents makes them by nature much more fragile than a comparably sized double wall, heavier tent. In my opinion, I would rather have a pound or two of extra weight for a tent that will last longer than one season.(and biblers used alot, don't usually last more than that anyway) About the groundsheet, if you're willing to shell out the cash for an expensive tent, invest in a ground cloth also, it will extend the life for sure. Just my two cents. sean
  15. If any one has any groovy climbing areas other than queens canyon around phoenix, I would be much obliged for any info. I'm headin' down south for a few days and am lookin' to do some climbin'. Thanks, Sean [ 08-15-2002, 09:19 PM: Message edited by: hikerwa ]
  16. "WE GOT AVIED OFF THE NORTH FACE OF SHUKSAN" -REDMONK LOSER.
  17. Dan, I have to say I did the chimneys to the top (almost) of winnies slide. Pretty cool route, I'm heading up again soon, the scrambing freaked me out the first time, but isn't a problem now. winnie's slide is pretty steep, and there is only a faint paint mark on the rocks near the entrance for the chimneys. Redmonk: Maybe you should climb the route before you bag it. IMHO. sean
  18. Don't know who this "poptart" is, but I miss the sassy, crazy poptart of the old daze...
  19. I'm cool with the Buckaroo, but I do think that David Parker has been itching to kayak or boat over to the ALKI for a few weeks. I'm sure that he would like to be able to boat over to the PC.
  20. 009, Redmonk and I went up the fuhrer finger a couple of weeks ago with a diabetic. He checked his blood sugar level every hour, and carried several snickers with him. He only had one small problem with his blood level tester freezing up once, but a few minutes under the armpit and it was good as new. If the diabetic person really takes the time to evaluate his/her nutritional requirements, there is no difference except for the hourly break (which technically isn't all bad).

    OE 800

The glorious and well crafted, Rainier Beer! Or the wonderful stand by, Old Milwaukee Beast Light (I'm watching my girlish figure )
  22. I'll see everyone at the Zoo then....
  23. just for fun: Erik- Best repeat venue is Alki. Allison- Alki MTNRGR- Alki Dave Parker- Alki (I can provide ride to DP if needed) Peter Puget(like he'll show)- NOT ZOO I just spoke to Jeff Hansel, he was kidding when he told Dave the ZOO. The Zoo is stinky, though cheap, I'll be at either, althought he count is still close. Including myself I get 7 no-Zoo votes. Or maybe I am just selfish... and like cheap burgers and pricey beer.
  24. I guess it's time I chimed in on this one... ChucK- I will forgive your ignorance ONCE. Alki would be cool, the burgers are still .75, and the beer is reasonably cold. The beautiful Stephanie (my fiance) may make a guest appearance also, since she is an early-to-bedder, whereas I am not. Me and TTT will do a recon mission this evening to see if the Alki is still cool. see ya all tomorrow,
  25. I was stupid and lost it! sean.
