  5. Trip: Mountain Loop Highway - Sperry Peak, South Ridge Date: 10/14/2007 Trip Report: Sverdina and I left the trailhead at 830am and headed up to Sperry peak. Only a few cars and the trail is in good shape. Slippery creek crossing made it somewhat interesting. Up Weden Basin and up Headlee Pass to our first view of Vesper. Good amount of dusting on the top 500 feet of the peak. We arrived at the lake and headed up heather benches towartds Sperry, then up a gully to the base of the climb. Beckey certainly does not give away the start of this climb, but it's damn obvious. We simulclimbed/extreme hiked the entire ridge. Sometimes it was 4th class, and sometimes we were struggling with trees and snags. Some parts of the ridge we quite exposed with some hairy moves, but none were more than low 5th. Fun and casual outing. The descent down from the summit was interesting since there was some snow remnants here and there that hid the trail, but we managed our way down to the lake and back to the cars at 530. Gear Notes: Small alpine rack, small cams and lots of slings for greenies Approach Notes: Sunrise Mine trail to Weden Basin, up Headless Pass, to Lake Elan, up heather benches and then up heather gully to start of climb.

  7. As I commonly post notices on the PSE.com website, I thought this one might pertain to the climbing community: Flooding repairs to restrict travel through August on Baker Dam Road Flooding repairs to restrict travel through August on Baker Dam Road BELLEVUE, Wash. -- (August 15, 2007) -- Repairs to a flood-damaged section of Baker Dam Road about a mile west of Baker Lake will cause traffic delays and detours beginning tomorrow, Aug. 16, through the end of the month, according to Puget Sound Energy. The damaged roadway, just east of Baker Lake Road, is about 13 miles north of Concrete, off State Route 20. PSE is conducting the road work to ensure public access to its Baker Lake facilities. Baker Dam Road (U.S. Forest Service Road 1106) provides public access to PSE's Kulshan Campground, Baker Lake Lodge, Baker Lake boat launch and Upper Baker Dam, as well as to Forest Service hiking trails east of Baker Lake. Beginning Monday (Aug. 20), Baker Dam Road will be closed and motorists will need to take a five-mile detour via Horseshoe Cove to reach any of those destinations. Detour signs will be in place to guide traffic. This weekend, traffic on Baker Dam Road may encounter construction preparation-related delays of up to 30 minutes. Flooding last winter washed out a large section of roadbed where Baker Dam Road crosses Sulfur Creek. Temporary repairs were performed last spring to re-open the road in time for the boating and fishing season. This month's road work will include removing a damaged culvert and rehabilitating Sulfur Creek's stream bed in preparation for the future installation of a permanent bridge crossing. 13. My condolences to both families, Brians wife in north bend and mizuki's family. Sorry for everyone's loss here on cc.com, it sounds like there were pretty cool people and great climbing partners. We have suffered another big loss in the climbing community. I lost a family member this year, and Ed Miller died last year, Kellogg, Chris Boskoff and Charlie........let's try and stay safe. I am sure they were safe as well, some things are just out of our control it seems. Thank you to Brian and Mizuki for all the support and your contributions to this site and the climbing community. RIP
  14. Does this mean they need to elminate all the cliffs, boulders, buildings, or other obstructions that just might cause an accident by a negligent customer at the ski area?
  15. Is it not similar to "Caveat emptor"? I feel empathy for Kenny and his family, but it is just a park where you can go and play. If you get hurt there, it's GENERALLY your fault unless the park did not maintain the area. If I rode a swing at a local park, swung to high, fell off and broke my neck, that's not their fault for building a swing that went to high, that was operator error.....
  16. These are new images, from the 2006 course So much more to spray.....visit everettmountaineers.org and click on gallery.
