Trip: Snake River - More FAs

Date: 1/19/2007

Trip Report:
Knowing that all this stuff was going to fall down, pup_on_the_mountain, Sam, and I climbed all of the remaining "safe" new routes along the Snake today. Temperatures were mild (upper 30's or so) and the ice was rapidly delaminating. Many of the free hangers fell down while we were there! Don't go rushing out to climb these since they'll all be gone in a day or so anyways.

We haven't named them yet, but here are the photos:

A route in "The Auditorium" WI3/3+R, 40'

another new route (WI2+R/X, 30'), with Higher Learning in the background. The only pro on this was a knifeblade at 2/3 height. I climbed to the top and then downclimbed back to the pin.

Finally, one more (WI3R, 40'):

Gear Notes:
Stubbies, screamers, and knifeblades

Approach Notes:
MP 19 on Wawawai River Road, between Wawawai and Lewiston.

More nice stuff ripe for the picking.

I'm wondering how many gullies and coulee's get ice where there's no road or easy access out there in the desert. Maybe Scurlock could do a few reconaissance flights

more pr0n for ya. we climbed the lefthand line today (see first photo above), the two lines in the center are unclimbed (and poorly bonded!). let's hope the obvious hanging pencil forms sometime!

First ascents are going up all over the place! Nice work! How long of a drive would that be from PDX?

5.5 to 6 hours.....I drove it in summer to Tri Cities then north and cut over to Colfax, WA and down. If you go through Lewiston and back down the Snake on the other side it actually takes longer....There are 1st ascent possibilities closer to PDX than the Palouse

Are you implying that people would climb the rock or just being sarcastic?

It was supposed to be a joke . Wankers on this board know what I'm talking about though. I guess I need to work on the delivery a bit .
