Trip: The ankle specialist - It's worse than I thought

Date: 12/4/2006

Trip Report:

So I went to see a Podiatrist who specializes in sports medicine and ankle injuries because my ankle was still bothering me after 'spraining' it while skiing. Well, not so much skiing as falling.

The doc re-xrayed my ankle and it turns out I actually broke my tibia. So, I am now in a removable cast for a month and then I get to start physical therapy for the sprained ligaments and tendons. Bottom line is I will be out for 4 months before I can return to my prior level of physical activity. D'oh!

Gear Notes:

Removable cast

Approach Notes:

Don't do what I did

I tore the ligaments (sprained) my ankle pretty badly coming out of The Enchantments in August and it's still really stiff and painful. I agree that tape (and good boots with ankle support) help and can get you out there, but I also suggest good, solid help from a sports injury specialist if you want to avoid chronic tightness and pain. Ankle "specialists" blew me off, too. Once I got my cast off, they said I was cured, but I still have a lot of tightness and pain. Try Jeff Robinson. He's awesome. His number is 503-593-7640. He's a Pac 10 ref, works with the Kings in Sacramento, etc. and really cares about getting you back into action.

Dang!!!

* keep doing pull-ups

* catch up on the honey-do's

* enter a wheelchair marathon

* read all the Beckey's cover-to-cover(again!)

* cure that tendonitus once and for all

* mark your calendar four months from now

...and climb like an uncaged beast next spring!!

(Oh...and you're dead to me now. ;) )
