Headed to the City for a few days of climbing. I've never been there; should I reserve a campsite in advance - and if so, what campground area(s) are recommended?

Definitely reserve a campsite. It's a long drive to show up with no place to camp. Sites 54 and 55 are really nice (54 is best) and right at King on the Throne which has a bunch of fun routes from 5.9 to 5.11-. Walk across the street to Batwing, the best 5.8 in the world.

Heres the link to the reservation site

If you drive up the the breadloafs.....drive past them and take the first right....a mile up that road is BLM land. Camp for free.

Thanks! Kevbone -- can I drive up the BLM road in a rental car (w/o destroying it)?

Camping is great and pretty cheap but do get reservations. But if you wanna be on the cheap, the BLM road is just West of the Entrance on the West side (coming from Oakely). If you come from Almo, drive all the way through the park and turn Right just outside on the west side. You can get water in the park either way.
Highly recommend Tribal Boundaries in the City and Shock and Awe at Castle Rocks. Both easy 10 sport climbs. And Fred Rasmussen, a sweet 5.8 crack. Rock!!

Not sure if this still stands, but the water at the pumps in the park is pretty gnarly. They had problems with it before and were working on it. It's pink and tastes like crap. None of the locals drink it.

Not sure about that BLM spot your talking about Kevbone, they closed down access to the few free camping spots not too long ago. But i don't know for sure what's what.

There's also free BLM camping on the east side of the park, past the RV campgrounnd which I was depending on since I'll be there in a couple of weeks and most of the camp spots were full.
Anyone know if this area (east side) has been closed off as jlag indicated??

The water from the pumps is awesome now. I was there last memorial weekend. Camp in the park, don't go to the RV park on the East side, not nearly as pretty. But their showers are ok
