illegalviking
How does the hogsback look this year, after last years migration to the west. Is it once again leading climbers right up to the Pearly Gates?

billclimbs
Â Here's a shot from Thursday, April 3rd. We opted to go straight through the gates. One icy section, 6-8'

illegalviking
Awesome pics billclimbs. Were many climbers taking the west face route off of the hogsback?
billclimbs
being a thursday.. only saw a few other folks out there. two from wy-east route. actually saw a dude fall in the crevasse(which has already opened a few inches)just up to his hip and he never knew he did. no rope going up but used two tools for the icy section. did use a couple of anchors to rap down. I would expect by may things will be beat down and not require rope
TomP
I was there last Saturday. Went up Pearly gates down Old Chute. Just a patch of ice in the PG but 15 feet of ice on the way down in the Old Chute. If you go up anytime soon I would take the Old Chute up, more fun. Also an ice tool recommended for the ice there and also it is steeper then usual.
