I have a vein that goes right over the distal knuckle (I don't know what that knuckle is called) in my right ring finger. Every now and then, I do something that busts it open and it swells into that knuckle area. It usually takes a week or two to "drain" and the pressure goes away.

The last time I injured it, about two and a half weeks ago, I must have gotten it good. It doesn't seem to be getting better. By now, I figure ice/heat will only do minimal help. Is there anything else I can do to make this heal? The pressure and discomfort in the knuckle has not gotten any better since the third day of the injury.

Also, can I get this vein cauterized or something like that? It is really an inconvenience. It it knocked with every belay move and every hand jam. I'd like to avoid this in the future.

Suggestions?

First of all you might stop punching out misogynists like CPB. They have very hard heads...

That's really weird. Have you ever had it x-rayed or had blood tests done with that in mind? Just curious.

I have not. And the sucker still hurts. The swelling has gone down, although not back to normal, and the color is ok. But it sure is tender and makes me wince whenever it brushes against something.

Even the chick half of me can knock you out.

Layton, any thoughts on where I should go for this? Does this require a hand specialist or a vein specialist? Or is it something that is not going to get worse so I shouldn't worry about it?

I think that a hand specialist might be a good idea.

what he said, unless it's not a hand problem. You might want to have a general physician take a look at it. I can certainly see you and send you where you need to go after some x-rays are taken.

In the mean time, you might want to tape it up really well when you go climbing to protect it. Maybe even put MoleFoam down under the tape.

With dye contrast agent you can see them.

my blood is green.

I think I'll just ask next time I go for a regular checkup. Maybe it will be f*d up again by then.

I didn't know that most people didn't have any veins over their knuckles. Good to know.

No one. I think I do. I can see them. I don't think any xray is going to make them more visible. I am just annoyed that this particular one seems to get more sensitive as time goes on and take s more time to heal.

I mentioned the x-ray not for the veins, but for any funky other things.
