stephensteach
I am planning to ski up and down Mt Hood June 1st or 2nd. I was wondering if the lifts are still running to save a couple thousand feet of elevation gain at that time. If so, is it worth waiting until they open (9am?) or better to do an alpine start. pcg
Exact time they open varies, but that time of year it is usually from 7:30 to 8:30 AM. An alpine start from the parking lot will get you way past 8,000 ft. (top of Palmer lift) by 7:30. Keep in mind, though, that the snow may not soften enough up high to making skiing enjoyable until much later.
stephensteach
I called the resort and they will open the lifts at 7 or 8am. Is the rock/ice fall too dangerous if we start skinning/climbing from the top of the lifts at 7:30 or 8:30am?
